Restaurants: Heard Burger, Soho, with some lovely Lambrusco Sorbara
Website: https://heardburger.co.uk/
I’ve been to a few good Burger places of late. There’s the brilliant Gasoline Grill in Copenhagen, and then I had the amazing cheeseburger at Fat Rabbit in St Catherines (Niagara, Canada) twice in a week. And while we were filming in Burgundy there was a brilliant roadside burger place in Beaune (Yellow Bus Burger). But Heard, a relatively new opening near Carnaby Street in London, is as good as I’ve tasted.

There’s limited space upstairs, so most of the action happens in the basement. As a space, it lacks any real character, but the burgers here are amazing. Thrilling even. And what got me excited was that they have a Laumbrusco Sorbara on the menu for £40. It’s a good one, too, from Cleto Chiarli. But for some bizarre reason, on the short but good wine list, this was in with the red wines. It’s a pale pink fizz, and anyone ordering this as a red will be quite surprised.

This is as good as burgers get, and a strong recommend from me, especially if you like wine with your burger (most people were drinking their burgers with soft drinks when we visited mid-afternoon, something I find hard to understand.)

Cleto Chiarli Vecchia Modena Lambrusco di Sorbara Premium 2024 Italy
11.5% alcohol. Comes sealed with an afgrafe (a cork with a metal clip). Pale pink in colour. Tart, bright and lively with a bit of bite as well as sweet cherry and cranberry fruit. So juicy and delicious with a tangy sherbetty finish, juicy and alive. 91/100
