Highlights: Mateus Nicolau de Almeida Trans-Douro-Express Cima Corgo 2022 Douro
I recently reviewed the amazing wines from Mateus Nicolau de Almeida. Douro with a difference, packaged in Riesling-style bottles, aiming at elegance. This is one of a series of three wines looking at the different sub-regions of the Douro, and it’s really good, and not expensive. I bought this from a wine bar in Peso de Regua.
Mateus Nicolau de Almeida Trans-Douro-Express Cima Corgo 2022 Douro
12.5% alcohol. This is full flavoured but beautifully balanced with fresh, fragrant red cherry and plum fruit, as well as a bit of raspberry crunch. There’s some wet stone minerality here, and it finishes fresh. A classic Douro red with real poise and detail, and a delightful sappy green hint on the finish. 93/100 (€16 in Portugal)
