Eight wines under £10 that offer amazing value, from The Wine Society

It’s getting very hard to find wines that retail under £10 in the UK and which still have any character, because of the recent increase in taxation. But The Wine Society seem to have a gift for sniffing out bargains, and I have pulled out a few gems here from yesterday’s excellent press tasting.

Lou Blanc Pacherenc du Vic-Bilh 2022 France
14% alcohol. This is made by Plaimont and it’s a blend of Gros Manseng, Petit Manseng and Petit Courbu, stainless steel fermented and aged. Weighty and delicious, this is layered with honeyed citrus and pear fruit. The fruit has a sweetness to it (although it’s a dry wine), and everything is nicely hemmed in by spicy acidity. 92/100 (£9.95 The Wine Society)

Emiliana Silbador Gewurztraminer 2025 Rapel, Chile
13% alcohol. Made by organic specialists Emiliana. This is a beautiful Gewurztraminer with rose petal, pear and lychee notes. It’s not too showy, and comes across as fresh and pure with nice depth. Dry. 91/100 (£8.95 The Wine Society)

Domaine Emile Boeckel Alsace Blanc 2025 France
12.5% alcohol. A blend of Sylvaner, Muscat and Pinot Blanc. This is beautifully expressive with some grapey, lychee prettiness and also notes of honey, peach and pear. Delicious stuff with just a hint of sweetness (rs 6.2 g/litre). Impressive for the price. 90/100 (£9.95 The Wine Society)

Château Beaubois Un Amour de Cinsault 2025 France
11.5% alcohol. From the Costières de Nîmes this is a biodynamic Cinsault of real class. Fresh raspberry and cherry fruit nose with some wild herbs. Very Cinsault in character. The palate is pure and focused with nice balance to the fresh red cherry and plum fruit. 92/100 (£9.95 The Wine Society)

Feudo Arancio Nero d’Avola 2024 Sicily, Italy
13% alcohol. This carries 6.3 g/l residual sugar, but I didn’t spot it. There’s lovely fruit purity with cherries, raspberries and a lick of spice and pepper. Nice weight: this is just about the pure fruit. 90/100 (£9.25 The Wine Society)

The Society’s Barbera d’Asti Superiore 2023 Piemonte, Italy
13% alcohol. I was really impressed by this own-label Barbera. Lovely weight and balance here with nice density and a wet stone edge to the pure cherry and plum fruit. Good concentration and superb balance. 91/100 (£9.95 The Wine Society)

AA Badenhorst Fontein Cabernet Sauvignon Syrah 2026 Swartland, South Africa
13.5% alcohol. A lovely fresh, drinkable baby wine (this is 2026!). Fresh, floral, expressive nose is juicy and bright with nice grip, as well as supple, open cherry and strawberry fruit. Delicious with lovely drinkability and a bit of grip on the finish. 91/100 (£9.95 The Wine Society)

Undurraga Candelabro Carmenere 2025 Maule, Chile
14% alcohol. This is brilliant. Fresh, floral blackcurrant fruit with some cherry and spice. Nice freshness on the palate with some structure, showing lovely vivid, sweet fruit and nice brightness. 92/100 (£9.95 The Wine Society)
