This is a really impressive southern Rhône red from Richaud, a top producer in Cairanne.

14.5% alcohol. Grenache, Syrah, Carignan, Mourvèdre and Counoise, aged in concrete. Organic farming. Beautiful aromatics here with sweet black cherries, pepper spice and charcoal. It’s floral and perfumed. The palate is ripe, textural, broad and sweet, but there’s a sense of freshness and a bit of grip on the finish. Warm and rich, but fresh and spicy with some sour cherry on the finish, as well as notes of olive and cured meat. This is utterly compelling, with just the slightest hint of wildness around the sweet acidity on the palate. 94/100 (£19.50 Tanners in the UK)
