Highlights: Champagne Billecart-Salmon Le Blanc de Blancs Grand Cru

I like that Billecart-Salmon now have ‘my origin’ on their website, where if you are so inclined you can find out all about your bottle. The technical information on the website is presented in a nice way that explains what all the details are about.

Champagne Billecart-Salmon Le Blanc de Blancs Grand Cru Extra Brut NV France
This wine is Chardonnay from the Côte des Blancs and it’s 77% 2017 and 23% 2016. All stainless steel base wine fermentation and ageing, and disgorged in second-quarter 2023 with a dosage of 1.2 g/l so the final sugar level is 1.7 g/litre. There’s a lovely citrus focus here with nice acidity, but also a touch of apple and white peach richness, and then a tangy, almost chalky minerality on the palate, with nice complexity and a hint of toastiness from the time on lees. There’s a real intensity, with the low dosage spot on, exaggerating the acidity and slight astringency, keeping it really fresh and gastronomic. Beautifull expressive and quite serious. 94/100
