Netzl and Christina, two generations from the same winery in Austria’s Carnuntum region
Website: https://www.netzl.com/en
Many Austrian wineries are family owned, and the change of generations is a way that some use to reinvent themselves. That’s happening at Netzl, where Christina Netzl is making a new range of wines that exists alongside the traditional wines of her father Franz (they are pictured above). Both ranges are excellent, and it’s great to see this sort of reinvention.
The Netzl vineyard, near the village of Göttlesbrun, is 30 hectares, all farmed organically, with a split of 60:40 red to white. They focus on the hillside vineyard for their single-vineyard wines. These sites are surrounded by trees, which cools things down nicely. Soils are gravelly.
I tasted these wines with Christina at Vievinum in Vienna.
