Highlights: Nu.Vo.Té 2019 Vin de France

A really impressive wine made from new varieties bred for disease resistance, from Languedoc producer Foncalieu.

Nu.Vo.Té 2019 Vin de France
11.5% alcohol. This distinctively packaged wine from Foncalieu in the Languedoc is made from two new grape varieties, Artaban and Vidoc. These were developed by the ResDur program which began in 2000, looking to produce grape varieties with durable resistance to the major vine diseases powdery and downy mildew. This is achieved by crossing native American and Asian grapes with the resistance genes with vinifera varieties, and then back-crossing the hybrids with vinifera to reduce the native component and up the vinifera. This is a really lovely, floral, fruity red wine with sweet cherry and berry fruits. There’s a subtle green framing and a nice juiciness to the berry fruits. It’s a commercially astute wine with amazing pure, fresh, seductive fruit. 90/100
