Yuki Bar revisited: one of London’s best spots for natural wine
We popped into Yuki Bar yesterday while we were exploring London Fields, which is one of the gastronomic hotspots of the capital. [I’ve reviewed it previously here.] It’s such a lovely space, and the food and wine offering is top notch. Yuki uses a range of suppliers – he says he tries to keep it to six, and the result is a diverse and well-priced offer of natural wines. The food is beautifully prepared: it’s a short menu, but it covers most bases.

How can carrots taste so good (combined with some grapefruit)? And the umami deliciousness of the beetroot dish was superb. Tomato and cucumber were artfully combined with the complexity and intensity of the shiso leaf.

Wines were lovely, including the no-added sulfite Lapierre bottling from 2024, which was spot on.

Domaine Bohn Le Coup de Jus 2023 Alsace
This is Pinot Noir. Juicy, tart, nice red cherry, citrussy. Lovely chilled. Some sourness and nice acidity. Lovely drinkability. 92/100

JC Garnier Les Justice Chenin Blanc 2023 Loire, France
Dry, mineral, great citrus drive with a touch of apple. Lovely purity. Has a nice tension. Lovely balance. 94/100

Les Jardins de Theseiis Gamay 2020 Loire, France
Spicy, savoury, malty, some evolution. Earth and herbs. Quite evolved but has some nice bite. 90/100

Clos du Tue-Boeuf Brin de Chèvre 2022 Vin de France (Loire)
12% alcohol. 90% Menu Pineau, 10% Medlier St François. Lively and intense with sour cherry and lime, with a hint of volatility but also some savoury detail. Briny and intense with keen acidity. So lovely. It really works. 93/100

Marcel Lapierre Morgon (N) 2024 Beaujolais, France
12.5% alcohol. This is the N (no added sulfites) cuvée. Red cherries, spice, raspberries, silky, refined and peppery. So juicy and expressive with purity and focus. There’s an elegance and purity to this wine. Very fine. 94/100
