A big tasting of Tenerife wines, with some nice surprises
As part of the recent Island Wines Summit in Tenerife we had a chance to taste through a range of wines from the island, ordered by appellation. These are my notes. Missing here are any of the wines from Suertes del Marques, which I have written about in the past, and which are probably the best wines from the island.
DO Valle de la Orotava
El Roboso Blanco 2025 Valle de la Orotava
This is highly aromatic in a fresh, fruit-driven style with nice sweet citrus fruit and a touch of grapiness. Attractive in this style. 88/100
La Haya Barrica 2018 Valle de la Orotava
Quite old-school, barrel-aged white. Full gold in colour with some oxidative hints and some oak influence. Good in its style. 88/100
Salomé Tinto 2025 Valle de la Orotava
Supple and juicy with raspberry and cherry fruit as well as some grip. Nice ripeness, but also shows balance. Grainy and delicious. 92/100
La Araucaria Tinto 2022 Valle de la Orotava
Crunchy with some oak spice as well as direct berry fruits. Lots of barrel, but nice fruit here. 89/100
Engazo Tinto Cosecha 2023 Valle de la Orotava
A blend of Listan Negro, Tintilla and Castellana. Fresh and ripe with nice sweet rounded berry and cherry fruits, with a bit of grip but also some saltiness. A rich style, quite juicy, with some ripe strawberry too. 91/100
Murcal Tinto Barrica 2023 Valle de la Orotava
Grainy with nice sweet cherry and plum fruit, as well as some grip. Spicy and vivid with nice depth and structure. 90/100
DO Albona
Mencey Chasna Blanco Seco 2025 Albona
From 1300 m altitude. Very fruity and bright with good acidity under the grapefruit and lemon fruit. Crisp style. 89/100
Finca Encanto de Vilaflor Vilaflor de Chasna Listán Blanco 2024 Albona
From 1300 m. This is mineral and taut with some salty flor character. Lively and direct with lovely fruit. Very precise. 91/100
Bodega Arese Viña Arese Tinto 2025 Albona
Fruity and lively, pure and aromatic, with rounded fruit. Raspberry and almods notes. A nice fruity style. 92/100
Chasnero Tinto Ecológico 2025 Albona
Juicy, stony and mineral with a chalky edge to the vivid cherry fruit. Nice brightness here with massive drinkability and good fruit purity. 93/100

Marba Blanco 2025 Tacoronte-Acentejo
Bright and tart, juicy and fruity with nice balance. Linear. 88/100
Hacienda de Acentejo Tinto Joven 2025 Tacoronte-Acentejo
Juicy, bright and crisp with nice redcurrant and cherry fruit, as well as a touch of raspberry. Fresh and lively. 90/100
Viña Riquelas Tinto Negramoll 2024 Tacoronte-Acentejo
Nice intensity with tart, bright cherry and raspberry fruit, showing nice grip. Has freshness but also some substance. Good energy, and a hint of green. 93/100
Viña Estévez Tinto Barrica 2024 Tacoronte-Acentejo
Juicy and bright with nice vibrant raspberry and cherry fruit as well as a slight saltiness. There’s good intensity, and there’s also a touch of oak. 91/100

Artifice Listán Blanco 2023 Ycoden-Daute-Isora
Stony, mineral and long with lovely presence to the fruit. Mineral and saline with a slight wildness. So expressive. 94/100
Artifice Tinto 2023 Ycoden-Daute-Isora
Juicy and fresh with redcurrant fruit and some fresh red cherries. Fruity but also has some blood and iron notes. Focused with nice texture, and herbal and redcurrant notes on the finish. 94/100
DO Islas Canarias
Piedra Fluida Los Frontones 2023 Islas Canarias Tenerife
From the highest vineyard on the island at 1650 m. Stony and salty; mineral and incisive with high acidity. Really intense with a stony finish to the citrus fruit. Distinctive and lovely. 94/100
Vinatiago Listán Blanco de Canarias 2025 Islas Canarias Tenerife
Ungrafted vines (very common on Tenerife). Concentrated and fruit-driven. Linear with lovely intensity, and a saline edge to the pear and citrus fruit. Good depth of fruit to this wine. 94/100
Linage del Pago Vino de Parcela Marmajuelo 2024 Islas Canarias Tenerife
Grapey and salty with nice intensity. Vivid and saline with good depth and some bold flavours. 94/100
El Sitio Malvasía Aromática Vino de la Parcela Bebedros 2024 Islas Canarias Tenerife
Pithy and intense with some grapiness on the nose. Powerful and rich on the palate with some terpenic character and good fruit. Has some energy. 92/100
Atrevino Listán Negro 2022 Islas Canarias Tenerife
Fresh and light. Juicy with some redcurrant and strawberry fruit. Shows elegance, and a dark, stony, crushed rock character as well as a saline twist. 93/100
Taginaste Can 2024 Islas Canarias Tenerife
Listán Negro and Vijariego. Some noticeable oak influence here. Classically structured with some berry and cherry fruit and a stony twist. 90/100
Envinate Benje Tinto 2023 Islas Canarias Tenerife
Linear, stony and bright with juicy redcurrant fruit. Tart and linear with some blood and iodine notes in the mix. Really focused. 94/100
Bodega El Lomo Listán Negro 2024 Islas Canarias Tenerife
Supple and juicy with nice red cherry and redcurrant fruit. Stony, with some saltiness and elegance. Lighter-style red with some presence, this is quite stylish. 93/100
