Some Piedmont gems: Oddero, Produttori, Albino Rocca

I popped into the excellent Handford Wines, and managed to try some of these Piedmont gems, which were being poured by their agent, Astrum Wine Cellars.

Albino Rocca Barbaresco Cotta 2016 Piedmont, Italy
Rounded, expressive nose showing mint, herbs and nice berry fruits, with hints of rose petal. Taut with nice grippy tannins. Fine grained with raspberry and spice notes. Elegant, precise and balanced. 95/100

Produttori del Barbaresco Barbaresco 2016 Piedmont, Italy
Lovely focus here: smooth and sweetly fruited with cherry and berry fruits, and also some grainy structure. For Nebbiolo, this is lush and ripe, but it also has focus. Good structure allied to ripeness, with cherries, plums and a hint of liquorice. Very fine. 94/100

Oddero Barbaresco Gallina 2016 Piedmont, Italy
Bright, floral red cherry and raspberry nose. The palate is textural and smooth with red cherry fruit. Very smooth and fine with attractive red fruit character and amazing finesse. 95/100

Oddero Barolo Vignarionda Riserva 2009 Piedmont, Italy
Wonderfully aromatic with spice, cedar and tar notes, alongside the raspberry fruit. Concentrated and exotic with herbs and spices as well as cherry and raspberry fruit. Great concentration and harmony here: real elegance. 96/100
