Highlights: Staffelter Hof Little Bastard 2019 Mosel

Jan Matthias Klein runs his family estate, Staettler Hof in Kröv, in Germany’s Mosel region. As well as some more standard offerings, he makes a series of natural wines with no added sulfites and cartoon labels from Aaron Scheuer. This is one of them. It’s a blend of Riesling (60%), Sauvignon Blanc (25%), Muller Thurgau (12%), Muscat (3%, with extended skin contact).

Staffelter Hof Little Bastard 2018 Mosel, Germany
11.5% alcohol. No added sulfites. Slightly cloudy, this is vivid and fresh, with lovely aromatics, and the high-ish levels of dissolved carbon dioxide add to the feeling of freshness. Has citrus and spice with nice precision, and some refreshing grapefruit character. So drinkable and vital. 92/100 (£50 on the list at Bedales)
