Artemis Karamolegos Santorini Ancestral Vines ‘34’ 2018 Greece
14% alcohol. This is a 100% Assyrtiko from the island of Santorini. This island was reoccupied after a volcanic eruption 34 centuries ago, hence the ‘34’ in the name of this cuvée, which is made from very old vines. It’s thought that Assyrtiko was planted soon after that, so it has more than three millennia of unbroken history on the island. Fine, focused nose with delicate, mineral-edge fine herbs, citrus peel and some floral hints. The palate has some depth, but also a nice saline edge to the citrus fruit, with a fine spicy finish. So many layers of flavour here, showing concentration, intensity and minerality. 94/100 (Available in the UK from Woodwinters)
