Highlights: Red Hook Winery McCall Vineyard Merlot 2016 North Fork of Long Island, New York State

The Red Hook Winery is an urban winery in Brooklyn, New York. I visited back in August 2018, and was really impressed with the set up. Sourcing grapes primarily from Long Island in New York, there are three winemakers, each with their own different perspective. This wine is made by Christopher Nicholson, and I really like it: an elegant take on Merlot.

12.5% alcohol. This is made by Christopher Nicholson. It’s a supremely fresh, elegant expression of Merlot with fine red cherry, some blackcurrant hints, and a delicate green leafy hint. There’s full ripeness here, but also great balance, with floral overtones to the cherry and berry fruits. This is so supple and drinkable. 93/100
