Highlights: Domaine Bonnigal-Bodet Chenin ‘Le Clocher’ 2018 Touraine Amboise, Loire

Domaine Bonnigal-Bodet is Jean Baptiste Bonnigal and Stéphane Bodet, who jointly took over Bonnigal’s fourth-generation family domaine in Amboise together in 2015. They’ve got quite a few vineyard parcels, spanning a range of varieties and soil types. These include Chenin Blanc (this wine), Côt (Malbec), Sauvignon Blanc and Pineau d’Aunis. Farming is organic/biodynamic. Le Clocher is a plot on a south-facing clay-limestone terroir above the village of Limeray.

14% alcohol. This is a bold, richly textured dry Chenin Blanc with a sweet pear and peach edge to the bold, crystalline citrus fruit with some spicy flourishes and a bit of tannic grip on the finish. Some apple and spice, too. Such precision allied to richness. Shows a lovely acid line with a touch of marmalade on the finish. Lots going on here: really superb. 93/100 (£19 Advinture https://www.advinture.co.uk/product/domaine-bonnigal-et-bodet-amboise-chenin-le-clocher-sec-2018/)
