Prosecco: wines from two good producers, Le Rughe and Anna Spinato

These Proseccos are from two producers – Le Rughe and Anna Spinato – imported into the UK by the Beverage Boys (website: https://beverage-boys.com/product-category/prosecco/)

I was impressed: these are really good examples of Prosecco with great balance and focus. The pricing – £12.95 or £14.95 for the Prosecco Rosés – is spot on. It’s a notch above supermarket Prosecco (these are much better wines) but a fair bit below decent Champagne.

Le Rughe Prosecco Brut NV Italy
11% alcohol. This is dry and crisp with lovely pure pear and citrus fruit. Very fresh and expressive, and a bit zesty, with real purity and a slight herbal hint on the finish, as well as a touch of sherbet. Impressive stuff. 89/100

Le Rughe Prosecco Rosé Millesimato Brut 2020 Italy
11% alcohol. Pale in colour. I like that this isn’t in clear glass, which is good for quality. Fruity, pure and quite dry with nice cherry and cranberry fruit, as well as some strawberry notes. This is really lively and expressive and has lovely fruity aromas. Impressive and delicious. 89/100

Le Rughe Prosecco Extra Dry NV Italy
11% alcohol. Juicy and bright with some nice pure pear and apple fruit. This has nice citrus freshness, and also a nice sweetness on the finish. The balance here is lovely. 88/100

Anna Spinato Prosecco Extra Dry Millesimato 2019 Italy
11.5% alcohol. This is fruity and rounded, but still fresh with lovely lemon and pear fruit. There’s a nice sherbetty edge and some sweetness on the finish. This has a really bright zesty character and it’s very nicely focused. 88/100

Anna Spinato Prosecco Brut Millesimato 2019 Italy
11.5% alcohol. Really pretty and fruit driven with appealing pear and apple fruit, as well as a hint of table grape and some lemony brightness. There’s a touch of sweetness on the finish, but this behaves dry. Nice purity and focus here. 88/100
