This is a very traditional-style producer and no sulfites are added. Francesco started vinifying with his grandfather when he was 14 and makes completely natural wines from the Sciara Nuova contrada. All the wines are made in palmento, foot trodden and moved by gravity.
Francesco Modica Dedicato Etna Rosato 2020
Full gold in colour. Distinctive wine with a savoury spicy quality to the fruit. Has a touch of earth, stewed plum and spice. Grippy and detailed. Old school but lovely. 92/100
Francesco Modica Sciara Nuova Etna Rosso 2019
Faded colour with an oxidative nose of apples and red fruits. The palate is refined with nice texture: oxidative and mellow with some life, still, and spicy detail. 90/100
Francesco Modica Nonna Ciccio Etna Rosso 2018
This has a spell in barrel. Supple and refined with fine-grained cherry and plum fruit with some spicy, oxidative characters. Very traditional and mellow with some charm to it, finishing with some earthy hints. 91/100
