Chablis mini-study: six interesting wines

I tasted these wines in preparation for a seminar. Some real stars here.

Le Domaine d’Henri Heritage Chablis 1er Cru Fourchaume 2018 France
13% alcohol. Vines planted in 1937. Wild yeast ferment in 600 litre barrels. This is intensely vivid, spicy and a bit saline with a lovely saline edge to the textured, layered citrus fruit. It’s really crystalline with good acidity and a long tapering finish. Combines freshness with depth. This is my first time with this wine and I love it. 95/100

Samuel Billaud Petit Chablis Les Grands Terroirs 2019 France
12.5% alcohol. This is concentrated with lovely bright lemony fruit and a touch of pear, with lovely layers of flavour. It’s fresh and supple with a slight salinity, and also a hint of dough. Lovely expression of Petit Chablis. 92/100

La Chablisienne Chablis Le Finage 2018 France
12.5% alcohol. Layered and textured with appealing citrus and pear fruit with a touch of creaminess and also some flinty mineral notes, as well as a touch of green apple. Very pure and refined. 91/100

Domaine Long-Depaquit Chablis 2018 France
Nice fresh bright citrus and pear fruit with a touch of peachy richness. Some creamy notes on the palate adding softness to the texture and notes of bread and pastry. Has a nice nutty edge. 90/100

Jean-Paul & Benoît Droin Chablis Grand Cru Vaudesir 2018 France
13% alcohol. Refined stony, mineral nose with ripe citrus fruit and some notes of fine toast and bread. The palate is ripe, complex and refined with lovely depth to the citrus and white peach fruit with lovely depth and a soft, mineral finish. Ripe but superbly balanced with lovely depth and length. 95/100

Pascal Bouchard Chablis 1er Cru Vau de Vey 2018
13% alcohol. Organic. SE facing slope on left bank. This is concentrated, fresh and quite mineral with some brightness and notes of dairy/cheese in the background as well as bright lemon and pear fruit, with a touch of apple. This is very appealing with nice depth and focus. 93/100
