Beaumont des Crayères is a small cooperative based in Mardeuil, west of Epernay. Established in 1955 it is has 250 growers with 86 hectares of vines. Production is 600 000 bottles per year. The vineyards are mostly in the Marne Valley, with some others in Cumières, Damery, Dizy, Epernay, Hautvillers, Pierry and Vinay. The co-operative uses only its own grapes. This is a blend of 50% Chardonnay, 35% Pinot Noir and 15% Pinot Meunier, and was disgorged in November 2021 after spending 11 years on lees. A full yellow colour, this shows fine aromatics of toast, herbs, red apple, fruity sake and peach. The palate has concentration and some nice development with a toasty, nutty edge to the ripe, almost exotic peach, pear and lemon fruit. There’s nice depth and some bready richness complementing the layered fruit. Opulent and satisfying, and a good deal at this price. 92/100
