Highlights: Castello di Fonterutoli Badiòla Chianti Classico Gran Selezione 2017 Italy

The new category of Gran Selezzione has been a real boost to Chianti Classico, and here’s a really good example, showing just how good Sangiovese can be when it’s taken seriously.

Castello di Fonterutoli Badiòla Chianti Classico Gran Selezzione 2017 Italy
13.5% alcohol. This is from schist/sandstone soils ay 570 m. Beautifully elegant with aromas of liqourice, red cherries, raspberries and fine herbs. The palate is really refined, elegant and concentrated with fine flavours of red cherry, raspberry and cranberry, with extra notes of liquorice, iodine and pepper. Good tannins and acidity. Compact and bright, this is quite profound. 96/100
