Highlights: two from Champagne Bruno Paillard

I visited Bruno Paillard with Treve Ring a couple of years ago. This is a rare thing: a new Champagne house. And the wines are really good. Here I tasted a couple of the current range: the Première Cuvée and the Assemblage 2009.

Here’s a video tasting note of the Première Cuvée:

Champagne Bruno Paillard Première Cuvée NV France
12% alcohol. 89 parcels from 30 vineyards, minimum 36 months on lees, disgorged August 2019. This is very bright and focused with a keen citrus core and some pear and peach richness, as well as a touch of marzipan. This is beautifully linear and fruit driven, with enough complexity to engage the mind. 92/100

Champagne Bruno Paillard Assemblage 2009 France
Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, seven years on lees, disgorged September 2017. This is really lovely: concentrated with a real harmony to the peach, pear and citrus fruit. There’s also some nice toasty complexity and a crystalline structure. It’s a lovely wine with amazing balance and depth, showing some elegance as well as good acidity that integrates perfectly. Shows some richness but not too much. 94/100

*A few months ago I tasted the Bruno Paillard NPU 2014
