Elvio Cogno Langhe Nebbiolo Montegrilli 2021 Piemonte, Italy
14% alcohol. This is from a vineyard mid-hill in Ravera, in the village of Novello. A 1 hectare plot, facing south, at 300 m. Limestone/clay soils, vinified in stainless steel, with a bit of whole cluster. Supple, refined and quite restrained on the nose with a stony edge to the red cherry and dried herb fruit. Light and slightly reductive, making it shy. On the palate this is fresh and detailed with supple redcurrant and cherry fruit, with good acidity and a bit of grip. A light but well-defined expression of Nebbiolo with lovely purity and drinkability. 92/100 (£21.21 Lay & Wheeler)
