Exploring Lirac (3) Domaine Jean-Maxime Delorme

Domaine Jean-Maxime Delorme is a new domaine in Lirac. I tasted the wines with his wife, Anaïs Rebouleau. His family had made wines with another family, but there was a split. He began making his wines at the Tavel cooperative, and then in 2023 he bought his own winery in Lirac. He likes to work naturally, with wild yeasts, and tries to avoid adding sulfites.

Jean-Maxime Delorme Lirac Rouge 2022
13% alcohol. Just one barrel made. Carbonic for a few days then macerated. Made in the Tavel co-op. Juicy, fresh, stony and bright with nice pure fruit. Red cherries and raspberries with a nice savoury twist. Fine grained and mineral with beautiful texture. 93/100

Jean-Maxime Delorme Lirac Rouge 2021
13.5% alcohol. This was the first vintage, and he had no choice over harvest date. Grenache (from galets roules) and Syrah (from sand) harvested together and then raised in a concrete vat. Supple stony edge to the focused cherry and berry fruits with nice purity and brightness. There’s a taut raspberry character on the finish with nice tartness and some good acidity. 92/100
