Highlights: Gérard Bertrand An 1152 Cahors Malbec 2020

Cahors, in the Southwest of France, is the region of Malbec. It’s a wonderful place making lovely wines, but with some difficult climatic challenges (largely frost) it is suffering at the moment. Great to see Languedoc star producer Gérard Bertrand taking an interest in this region, and this is a lovely wine.

Gérard Bertrand An 1152 Cahors Malbec 2020 France
13.5% alcohol. This is a beautiful expression of Cahors, with ripe, sleek black cherry and blackberry fruit, with some sour cherry and even a hint of blackcurrant. There’s a brightness and focus to the wine, even though it is fully ripe. There’s nice structure, no apparent oak, and lovely vivid fruit. It has a bit of grip and grunt, which I really like. Proper Cahors. 93/100
