Highlights: Les Gaules de Bois Grolleau ‘Jackpot’ 2023 Vin de France
Les Gaules de Bois (Vincent Alexis & Romuald Cousy) Jackpot Grolleau 2023 Vin de France
10.5% alcohol. Vincent Alexis makes wines in the Bergerac region from his family domaine (Château Barouillet), but he’s paired up with friend Romauld Cosy to make negoce natural glou glou wines like this, from other regions using the Gaules de Bois label. Grapes for this are Grolleau from the Loire, given 7 days carbonic maceration and then alcoholic fermentation takes place with natural yeasts in stainless steel. No fining, filtration or added sulfites. This was served chilled. This Grolleau is juicy, fresh and tart with lovely red cherry and redcurrant fruit, some juiciness and a bit of nice wildness. Refreshing and gastronomic. 92/100 (this was £48 on the list at Bubala Soho – retail in the UK is c. £23)
