Highlights: Domaine des Rouges-Queues Bourgogne Aligoté En Vauvetout 2023

This is from a small domaine in Maranges established by Isabelle and Jean-Yves Vantey in 1998. They switched to farming organically and now are certified biodynamic. As is usual in the region, their 5.5 hectares of vines are split across 15 plots and 12 different appellations! This plot of Aligoté was planted in 1972, which sounds quite recent but is now 50 years ago! Winemaking is natural with sulfites only added before bottling.

Domaine des Rouges-Queues Bourgogne Aligoté En Vauvetout 2023 France
11% alcohol. Organic. This is tank aged to preserve its character. It’s a beautiful expression of Aligoté with crystalline citrus fruit and an appealing waxy, stony character. So layered, precise and mineral, with freshness and also a bit of depth. It’s not a wine that shouts, but its mineral personality creeps up on you as you drink it. Superb. 94/100 (UK agent is Newcomer Wines, but I bought this from a natural wine shop in Paris)
