A remarkable multicourse meal at Creation, a leading winery in South Africa’s Hemel-en-Aarde wine region

Creation is an impressive winery in the Hemel-en-Aarde wine region of South Africa. Head along the coast to the beautiful seaside village of Hermanus, and then it’s an attractive drive up a valley that is the source of many of South Africa’s best Chardonnay and Pinot Noir wines. You can read more about the wine side of things here.

While the wines are impressive, equally outstanding is the hospitality operation here. Overseen by owner Carolyn Martin, the attention to detail is remarkable. It’s also possible to stay overnight here in exclusive accommodation in the middle of the vineyard. It’s a beautiful spot, and you will be the only people on the farm overnight, which makes it a special experience.

We had the Serendipity Spring Flexitarian Menu, which was at points vegan, vegetarian and pescatarian. The dishes were paired with wines from the Creation portfolio, which is quite broad. This was a beautiful gastronomic experience: highly recommended.

Here is a current menu, with the food and wine pairing at ZAR1495, which is just under GBP£70 (and a little more expensive if you want the Art wines in the mix). This is expensive by South African standards, but for the quality on offer is cheap if you are coming from the UK.
