12.5% alcohol. Stesso Stesso is the winemaking project an Australian couple, James Hird and Annie Conley. Hird was co-founder of Sydney’s Rootstock natural wine festival, and Conley was a food and travel writer. They relocated to Umbria to purchase Beulah Violetta, an 150-year-old estate near Todi. Embracing regenerative and certified-biodynamic farming, they manage ten hectares of vines, olive groves, and wheat fields. This is a blend of Merlot, Sangiovese and Sagrantino, fermented in stainless steel, with low sulfite additions. Lovely vivid floral berry, cherry and plum fruit on the nose. The palate is pure and fresh with nicely proportioned raspberry and cherry fruit with some spiciness and a supple green note. Such lovely generosity of fruit, with a bit of savoury grip.
