Restaurants: Lunch at the Wigmore, a high-end gastropub that’s part of the Langham Hotel, London

At the end of Regent Street and the bottom of Portland Place, across the road from All Souls Langham Place and the BBC, lies the Langham Hotel. But before the main entrance, there’s a door to the Wigmore. It’s a gastropub that’s part of the Langham, and it’s quite fabulous.

The food is amazing, and the setting is too. Beautiful green, nice features, coherent design.

The menu is from Michel Roux, and it’s hearty pub fare reinvented. The most famous dish is the epic three cheese stovetop toastie. I’d just had the second half of a root canal done that morning, so didn’t fancy my chances with this.

But the orzo pasta and the cheeseburger we ordered were superb. Washed down with Timothy Taylors.

You drink beer here. While the food is really good, the wine list is poor, and it’s also expensive.
