Matthias Müller, stunning wines from the Mittelrhein in Germany

Matthias Müller is a family-owned wine estate based in the Mittelrhein.

It’s a beautiful area, and this stretch of vineyards on the Rhine between Bingen and Koblenz was awarded UNESCO World Heritage status in 2002.

They are based in Spy, and have 20 hectares of vines in the Bopparder Hamm, all on steeply sloping, south-facing slate soils. This includes sites in the top single vineyards of Engelstein, Rabenlei, Ohlenberg, Feuerlay and Mandelstein.

They also have a separate brand, Sektmanufaktur Momentum, for sparkling.

I tasted with Johannes Müller at the Cool Climate symposium in Copenhagen.
