Highlights: Craven Pinot Gris 2019 Stellenbosch, South Africa
Mick and Jeanine Craven are making some of South Africa’s most interesting wines from vineyards in Stellenbosch (see this extensive article from a couple of years back for more). I drank this wine last night from them, and it was utterly compelling. A Pinot Gris that’s almost on its way to being a lighter red wine, showing exquisite balance.
Craven Pinot Gris 2019 Stellenbosch, South Africa
12.5% alcohol. This is a full pink colour with a hint of orange. This is really lovely. There’s a fresh red cherry character, as well as some strawberry and a touch of citrus. It’s textural with some nice brightness and a subtle sappy character. Very fine and detailed with a crystalline edge. Lovely brightness to the fruit. It’s so multifaceted and delicious. 94/100
