Another great meal at Farmyard, St Leonards, with De Moor Aligoté and Principiano Barolo

Headed back to St Leonards on sea (near Hastings) yesterday, on a perfect summer’s day. Walking through the town and on the beach, and a lunch at Farmyard, which is a natural wine shop and bar that I’ve written about before. This place is a gem: beautiful food, plus an amazing wine list, very fairly priced. Here’s a link to a previous couple of visits: https://wineanorak.com/2023/01/07/restaurants-farmyard-hastings/

The wines:

De Moor Bourgogne Aligoté 2021 Bourgogne, France
12% alcohol. Fresh and beautifully saline with a core of citrus fruit as well as some green apple. Mineral and fine with a lovely acid line. Thrilling. 94/100

Fernando Principiano Barolo del Commune Serralunga D’Alba 2019
13.5% alcohol. Fresh, supple and beautifully balanced with fresh black cherries, blackberry and some tar and spice. Has an appealing bitterness on the finish. Ferrous. So fresh and vital. Grippy and mineral on the finish. 94/100
