Highlights: Fox Run Ikehu Cabernet Franc 2017 Finger Lakes, New York State

Cabernet Franc is a grape variety that is thriving in the Finger Lakes wine region in New York State, which is in New York State. Here’s a bottle from a good producer with a few years’ age on it that I popped. I was really impressed.

13.1% alcohol. This is drinking really well now. It’s a cherry red colour, and represents a lighter style of Cabernet Franc with juicy red cherries and plums, as well as a touch of wild strawberry. There’s good acidity, a nice tannic edge, some chalky minerality and a red fruit brightness on the finish. A beautifully focused example of this variety which does so well in the finger lakes. 94/100
