Australian Riesling, a study in 8 wines
These wines were tasted as part of the Finger Lakes Experience this year in Geneva, New York State. I’ve followed Aussie Riesling for quite a while, and so it was nice to try a group of them together.
Grosset Polish Hill Riesling 2022 Clare Valley, Australia
Fine, linear, fresh and textured, with a slight saline edge to the fruit. Lovely precision here with elegance and focus. 94/100
Hently Farm Riesling 2021 Eden Valley, Australia
Very linear and saline with good purity and precision, showing lemon, lime, pear. Such lovely weight and focus. 94/100
Pewsey Vale Contours Riesling Museum Reserve 2015 Eden Valley, Australia
Supple, mineral and stony with some creamy hints and a touch of cabbage. Lovely weight of fruit with some juicy, limey notes. 93/100
Leeuwin Art Series Riesling 2022 Margaret River, Australia
Supple, linear and transparent withy limey fruit and some stony mineral notes. Fresh and delicate, but with some weight on the mid-palate. Really pure. 93/100
Best’s Great Western Riesling 2021 Great Western, Australia
Linear, focused and bright with pristine lemony fruit and some bright citrus notes. So pure and energetic. 94/100
Ladies Who Shoot Riesling 2021 Victoria, Australia
Supple and textured with nice finesse. Has pure lemon and mandarin. Juicy and focused with lovely balance. 93/100
Forest Hill Highbury Fields Riesling 2021 Western Australia
Layered and textured with fresh citrus fruit and a stony edge. Nice purity and focus with real precision. 94/100
Rizz Fizz by Living Roots 2021 Adelaide Hills, Australia
Juicy, fresh and linear with pristine crystalline citrus fruit. Bright and vivid with a hint of aniseed, and nice finesse. 91/100
