Terre de la Custodia are based in Umbria, Italy. I recently tried six of their wines, and here are my notes.
Terre de La Custodia Tenuta Torrececcona Umbria Branco 2022 Italy
12.5% alcohol. Grechetto and Trebbiano, plus some other local varieties, aged in stainless steel, no malolactic. This is really focused and bright with lovely lemon and lime notes, as well as a touch of table grape. Fruit-driven and vivid with a nice salty twist to the bright fruit. This is a supple, bright fruity wine. 89/100
Terre de la Custodia Grechetto Montefalco 2022 Italy
13% alcohol. Stainless steel and oak, no malolactic. Brightly aromatic and quite exotic with lime, grapefruit and a twist of aniseed. Lovely focus to this wine with juicy lemon fruit and a slight pithiness on the finish. Such nice fruit intensity to this wine. 91/00
Terre de la Custodia Sangiovese 2022 Umbria, Italy
14% alcohol. Raised in stainless steel. Sweetly herbal nose with fine, spicy, tarry hints as well as some stewed strawberry and plum notes. Textural in the mouth with nice spiciness and a bit of structure, with notes of spice, tar and herbs providing a foil to the sweet fruit. 89/100
Terre de la Custodia Maior Montefalco Sangrantino 2019 Italy
15% alcohol. This is raised in used barriques and large-format oak for 18 months. Richly aromatic with spice, cedar and some tar notes, as well as sweet berry and black fruits. The palate is dense and sweetly fruited, but has an intense, spicy dimension with fine, tarry, grippy character. Bold, rich, dense and showy with nice intensity and a touch of balsamic character. Lovely depth here. 91/100
Terre de la Custodia Sericum Montefalco Rosso 2020 Italy
15% alcohol. Sangiovese plus other local varieties, aged in stainless steel. Boldly flavoured with rich, dense blackberry and cherry fruit, with a spicy undercurrent to the bold fruit. Shows well integrated structure with refined tannins. There’s depth and substance here, and a drying finish with some damson and plum notes. Satisfying and deep with a nice blend of the sweet and the savoury. 93/100
Tenuta de la Custodia Exubera Montefalco Sagrantino 2016 Italy
15% alcohol. From a 2 hectare plot, raised in barriques and tonneaux for 18-24 months. Complex nose with some maturity: notes of tar, ash and spice, as well as blackberry and black cherry fruit. The palate is concentrated and ripe with bold black fruits, showing some lushness and also some development, with a gravelly, savoury, cedary edge to the fruit. Finishes grippy. 92/100
