Luigi Giordano Langhe Freisa 2022 Valle dei Salici, Piemonte, Italy
13% alcohol. This is from Barbaresco, from the Cars MGA, and more specifically a site called the Valle dei Salici (“Valley of the Willows”), with the vineyard planted in 1970 at 200 m. The grapes are destemmed but not crushed, 15 days maceration, aged in stainless steel. This is fresh, vibrant, bright and crunchy with some of the Nebbiolo (parent) tannins, as well as lovely vivid, quite intense fruit. There’s a reasonable amount of extraction here, with robust structure and raspberry fruit intensity, and it could do with a year or two to settle down. A really lovely example of Fresia, with raspberry, red cherry and a hint of apple, even. Really enjoyable. 93/100
