Highlights: Fedellos do Couto Bastarda 2018 Ribeira Sacra

Fedellos do Couto are a natural-ish wine producer based in Ribeira Sacra. I visited a couple of years ago – it’s a stunning region. I had this wine sitting outside Vagabond in Paddington Basin on Friday evening, and it was quite beautiful. It’s a varietal Bastardo, which is the same as Trousseau in France – a grape skilled at making elegant, lighter wines.

Fedelos de Couto Bastarda 2018 Ribeira Sacra, Spain
12% alcohol. Light in colour this is a beautifully elegant red wine. So pure and fine with supple, fine-grained red cherries and plums. This is seamless and silky with lovely finesse. It’s a layered, multidimensional fine wine with real poise. Thrilling and so, so smashable. 95/100
