Exploring Swedish wine (6) Lottenlund Estate
Website: https://www.lottenlundestate.se/en/
Tina Berthelsen is the owner of Lottenlund estate, in Allerum near the town of Helsingborg. With her partner, Manfred, they bought their home 25 years ago. As they bought their plot, they also bought 10 hectares around it to avoid having neighbours. On a trip to Montalcino in 2010 they fell in love with wine and the idea was planted that they could turn their land into a vineyard.
They planned to put vines into the ground in 2013 when Tina was on maternity leave but this turned out to be a bad idea, and they put the project on hold until 2016 when they planted the first stage of the vineyard; a second set of plantings went in in 2019. They now have 7 hectares here and another plot of 3.5 hectares.
We met with Jacob Grinsted who is the viticulturist. The vineyard is all PIWI.
As well as making wines they also have a still, and produce some spirits.

Zesty and bright with a vibrant pithy edge to the sweet pear fruit, with some aniseed and warm spiciness. Has a tart lemony edge. Lovely fruit-driven mid-palate with intense zesty fruit covering a wide dynamic range, from melon to sweet plum, to pear, to lime, to grapefruit pith. Pretty and expressive. 88/100

Fresh, supple and bright with nice pear and citrus fruit, as well as a touch of table grape. Has good purity and a juicy acidity, finishing bright. 90/100
Lottenlund Estate Ivory Solaris 2021 Sweden
Aged in new French oak. Complex, savoury and spicy with noticeable oak. Spicy and detailed with some citrus, some pear and a pronounced minerality, with direct fruit. Good balance and complexity here. 90/100
