Highlights: Danbury Ridge Chardonnay 2022 at Le Vignoble, Plymouth
After a nice walk along the Cornish coast from Plymouth (there’s a ferry going to Mount Edgecumbe in Cornwall), we stopped off at the excellent Le Vignoble wine bar and shop for a glass of wine. The wine in question is the standard bearer for English Chardonnay, the Danbury Ridge in Essex’s Crouch Valley, from the 2022 vintage.

Danbury Ridge Chardonnay 2022 Essex, England
Powerful with toast, spice, brioche and pineapple, as well as some lime. Intense with good acidity and real focus and precision. Ripe but balanced with plenty of oak influence, but it integrates really well. There a real density to this wine, and with keen acidity adding a nice foil to the spice-laden fruit, this is a beautiful expression of English Chardonnay with a good future ahead of it. 94/100
And here’s another note on this wine from a few weeks ago:
Danbury Ridge Chardonnay 2022 Essex, England
13.5% alcohol. Lively toasty notes on the nose with vivid citrus fruit and a hint of pineapple. The palate is ripe and concentrated with real depth. Rich but nicely poised, this is quite brilliant. 95/100 (£40 Berry Bros & Rudd)
