Video: visiting an agroforestry coffee plantation in Brazil, the 15 hectare Sombra experiment that’s a collaboration between Fazenda Mió and Volcano Coffee Works in the UK
Coffee is often grown as a monocrop. Here, at Fazenda Mió in Brazil I’m visiting a 15 hectare agroforestry experiment, a project they began in conjunction with Volcano Coffee Works in the UK. There are four different coffee varieties interplanted with three types of tree. The trees provide shade and turbocharge the soil life, and there’s also a cover crop between the rows of coffee plants that also boosts soil microbiology and guards the soil.
