Highlights: Tio Pepe Fino Sherry En Rama NV (2026 release)

For me, the en rama movement in Sherry and Manzanilla has been an exciting shift for the region. Big sherry was boring, and then suddenly big Sherry realized they could make very interesting wines simply by not doing the big sherry thing, and bottling without denuding the wines by filtration and clarification. There’s more to the story, told here. But the result is wines like this, from Gonzalez Byass. Big Sherry doing things well.

Tio Pepe Fino En Rama NV Spain (2026 release)
15% alcohol. Yellow/gold in colour, this is bold and incisive, with amazing complexity. We have some spicy, raisiny richness, a feeling of slight sweetness, savoury nuttiness and then some vivid, tangy, crystalline citrus character. This is a wine that’s very rich but also very fresh, with beautiful layered complexity, finishing delightfully salty. It’s just so gastronomic, and utterly delicious. I can’t remember enjoying this wine as much before, even though I’ve rated it highly. It’s one of the great bargains of the fine wine world. 95/100 (£22 The Wine Society, Tanners, Amps, Cork & Cask, Saxtys)
