Criante is a natural wine producer based in Alcamo, western Sicily. The Adragane family have a mixed farm, with 15 hectares of vines over two locations, and about the same area producing other agricultural products. The farm has been in the family a long time, but it’s only since 2019 that the project has been called Criante. Although there is a DOC for Alcamo, they don’t use it because the appellation rules require interventions that they aren’t going to do in the winemaking process.

This is Catarratto from Contrada Valle. Lovely intensity and personality with pear, peach and some almond. Such amazing texture, and so expressive. 94/100

This is Grillo from Contrada Modica, which is a vineyard close to the sea. Open, textural and fine with lovely pear and lemon fruit with some chalkiness. Fresh but with texture. Open and expressive with nice balance. 93/100
Criante C21 M 2021 Sicily, Italy
This is Catarratto from Contrada Valle macerated on skins for 8 days. Pear, peach and some mint, with a nice bitter twist to the palate, and some almond character. Textural and expressive. 92/100
Criante P22 2022 Sicily, Italy
This is Perricone from Contrada Valle. Sweetly aromatic with a savoury edge to the ripe barriers and cherry, with a bit of grip. Slightly oxidative in style, but showing nice balance. 92/100
Criante N22 2022 Sicily, Italy
This is Nero d’Avola from Contrada Valle, 10% aged in large barrels for 6 months. There’s a nice savoury, bitter edge to the bright cherry and berry fruits with a grippy finish and some sour cherry at the end. 92/100
Criante Rossocriante 2020 Sicily, Italy
50% Perricone and 50% Nero d’Avola. Aged in new barriques. Slightly baked nose is savoury and spicy with some earthy hints. The palate is ripe, spicy and evolved. 90/100
