Highlights: Pietradolce Archineri Etna Rosso 2017 Sicily, Italy
Pietradolce was established in 2005 (first vintage 2009), and they have 11 hectares of vines planted in high altitude sites on volcanic soils. This is a beautiful expression of Nerello Mascalese.
Pietradolce Archineri Etna Rosso 2017 Sicily, Italy
15% alcohol. From 90 year old Nerello Mascalese vines planted at 850 m altitude on the northern slopes of Etna. This is a pale cherry red in colour, and has enticing aromas of red cherries, cranberries and fine spices. Despite the high alcohol, this is supremely elegant and fine, with fine-grained tannins providing structure, good acidity, and nice silky red fruits that have some sweetness, but not too much. Delicacy and drinkability here, supplemented by good structure and some seriousness. Quite lovely, finishing dry. 94/100 (£30.68 Armit)
